Article 156 of the Constitution of India provides that a Governor shall hold office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office.

A Governer holds office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters his office. However , this term is subject to pleasure of the president. President can remove a governer at any time. He can also give his resignation at any time addressing a resignation letter to president.
The president may transfer a governer from one state to another state at any point of time during his tenure. Also, Governor can hold his office beyond five years after completion of his term until his succesor assumes charge.
On expiration of his term he can be reappointed as governor of the same state or any other state by president.
